In just 48 hours, 60 000 people were evacuated from Pripyat, Ukraine following the
“the world's worst nuclear accident”: The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster

Nick Davidson — BBC

Overview

The Chernobyl Power Plant in Chernobyl, Ukraine was nuclear-fission-powered and was capable of producing four times the power output of the Huntly power station.

However, at 1:23 am on the 26th of April 1986 a failed reactor test resulted in the worst nuclear disaster in history; subsequently displacing over 200 000 people and collectively cutting short an estimated 4 000–24 000 lives.

The Briefing

Today I will be your guide around Chernobyl and Pripyat; much of it left abandoned and untouched since the day of the disaster. The guided tour will consist of showing you how nuclear reactions occur; a tour of the power plant; the disaster itself; and the catastrophic repercussions, peppered with insightful commentary, doodles and captivating technicolour photographs from the past and present, topped off with a quiz.

First of all, please put on some protective gear to prevent radioactive particles from penetrating through your body — and here's a Geiger counter; it lets off a warning when radiation levels become too high.
