What you need:

• Scissors
• 6 sheets of tissue paper (3 of each colour)
• glue stick
• pliers and a piece of wire
• 3 cotton balls
• methylated spirits
• and a lighter

What to do:

• First grab 1 sheet of tissue paper (colour is optional)
• Fold it in half downwards
• Fold it in quarters sideways
• Cut a triangle off each side from half way down to a quarter of the way in (see animation).
• Make three more the same shape and glue the sides together

The top is square. We made ours more colourful like this:

• Make two sheets (different colours) into squares
• Cut them diagonally
• Glue two of the triangles together then cut along the other diagonal
• Turn one triangle over and glue these two triangles together

Now finish your balloon:

• Glue the square you have made to the top of the balloon
• Check that there are no holes in the seams
• Make a small cardboard frame for the bottom of the balloon
• Reinforce the corners with a triangle with cardboard
• Cut a piece of wire to go across the cardboard frame diagonally
• Thread three cotton balls onto the wire. Tie them together with cotton in the middle of the wire
• Poke the wire into the corners of the frame
• Now you are ready to fly your balloon...
