We love our cats and dogs but if they are uncontrolled they can play a part in destroying our native birds. Both animals are hunters. Owning a pet means caring for that animal in a responsible manner.

Taking Care of Dogs

There are five things that can make a dog happy. Those things are giving food and water to the dog day and night, love and the most important things are exercise and shelter. You can make a dog happy by doing all of those five things.

Dogs need love because they can turn wild and eat our native birds. If you are planning to get your puppy or dog a kennel, you can just get a basket with a blanket and a soft toy in it, unless you want a bone in the basket. Or you can put a blanket and some toys in the garage. You can give a dog a bone to play with. If you want, you can do a treasure hunt with the dog, like hide a bone or something else, and you can follow the dog until he finds whatever you hide.

You can go down to the park and play fetch, so then your dog can get fit and blood pumping around your dog’s body. If you don’t give your dog exercise, he or she will not get blood pumping in its body.

If your dog or puppy has a problem, take your dog to the S.P.C.A. Every six months you can give your pet a worm tablet, for fleas. If you see a dog that is skinny, or a cat that is fat, call the S.P.C.A. If you want another pet, get one from the S.P.C.A. You can get more information from the library.
