There are three challenge categories for the competition this year:
• The Web Challenge is open to primary, intermediate and secondary students. • The Animation & Digital Video challenge is open to primary, intermediate and secondary students. • The Video Game Design challenge is open to intermediate and secondary students only.
Following on from the success of last year we’re once again encouraging students to design a Web site on any topic in their curriculum, with the view of educating other students. The theme for this year’s Web site entry is “What we’ve learned...” This can be based upon on any topic relating to a subject that you are currently learning or have learnt in your current academic year.
The theme for the Animation and Digital Video Challenge is “The Environment”. Students are asked to produce an animation or digital video which is no longer than 5 minutes in length. This can be based upon literally anything to do with the world’s environment. For example it could be based upon the effects of global warming, pollution, fossil fuel usage, depletion of the world’s rain forests, deforestation, over fishing, animal extinction and so on. The world is your home so choose something that's important to you!
This years third category is the Video Game Design Category. The entry theme for the Video Game Design Challenge should be based upon your favourite sport! This could be a sport you like to watch or play, such as your local rugby or netball team, surfing, mountain biking, gymnastics, soccer, athletics or even chess!
- At primary school level, students can enter as a team of three or a whole class.
- At intermediate school level, students can enter as a team of three or as individuals.
- At secondary school level, students can enter as a team of three or as individuals.
- The entries can be developed on any computer whether at school, in a library or at home.
- The final entries must be signed off by the supervising teacher, who will also receive a prize if they are associated with the winning site.
If you are submitting a Web site into the competition then you will need to use a third party site to host your entry or you can host it yourself. We suggest you use webs.com, weebly.com, sites.google.com. Alternatively you can use Web development software (please see the resource kits for tips and techniques on what software to use), and host it yourself. Once your site is live simply provide us with the URL via the NetGuide Multimedia entry form for the judges to view.
If you are submitting a Digital Video animation into the challenge then you will need to host the video on a third party Web site. We suggest you host your video on Youtube.com. Once your video is live on Youtube, simply provide the URL of the video on the NetGuide Multimedia entry form for the judges to view.
Finally if you are submitting a video game design you will need to post the game file to 'TVNZ6 NetGuide Multimedia Challenge, PO Box 47-318, Ponsonby, Auckland, 1144'. You will then need to fill out the NetGuide Multimedia entry form to complete your submission.
For more details on how to enter, please download the resource kit.
