GENERAL Q. I would like to take part in the competition but have no idea about creating a Web site, animation or digital video, or designing a video game. Where do I start? A. The resource kits offer advice on creating your entry. There are also heaps of books and Web sites which show you how to build a Web site, create animation or digital video or design a video game and there are even Web sites which give free templates and software you can use to create your entry. It’s all out there waiting for you. Q. Our school has Apple Mac computers. Is this challenge suitable for schools with a Mac platform? A. It does not matter what type of computer you create your entry on; it won’t affect peoples’ ability to view your site. Q. What is the intended audience age for viewers of my entry in this competition? A. You should aim the level of knowledge of your Web site at people your own age. A. You are welcome to enter the competition as many times as you like, however, every entry must be unique (i.e. you can’t enter the same Web site, animation/digital video or game design more than once). Q. I am home-schooled. Can I enter the competition with my siblings? A. All students are welcome to enter the competition regardless of where they study. Get a team of three together and enter the competition, making sure that the level you enter is at the highest scholastic level; e.g if you are at secondary level, but the others are at intermediate, enter into the secondary team level. Remember, every entry must be accompanied by a teacher. In the case of home-schooled students, your teacher/tutor or supervisor will need to authorise your entry - check out the rules page. Q. Can I just enter as a team of two? A. No. Find one other person and enter as a team of three. Entries with insufficient numbers will not be valid for prizes. A. This year there are no registration periods, but you do need to submit your entries online, or by post for game design entries, by September 25th. It’s that easy! Mail your game design entries to this address: PO Box 47-318 Ponsonby, Auckland 1144 New Zealand Q. Can we enter in term three? A. You can enter any time you like between now and September 25th. You can take advantage of the tips and techniques section on the website and also ‘Tip of the Day’. Q. Can we change our subject/students' names etc? A. Sure you can. Go to the Entry form and resubmit your entry with the correct information. Q. Could you please register the following students in teams into the competition? A. Sorry, it is up to the students and teachers to enter themselves into the competition. Q. Can we remove one of our team members who haven’t pulled their weight? A. If you do that, get your teacher’s permission first. Then if you decide to go ahead with it, make sure you get someone in to replace them so your entry is still valid. Then go to the Entry form and reenter and submit your information and entry. A. The winners will be announced on http://www.techday.co.nz/netguide/ on November 14th, and in the December issue of NetGuide. A. Yes you can. However, bear in mind any of your Web site host’s size restrictions. Q. Can we have a copyright tag on our site? A. Yes, you can use a copyright tag. Bear in mind though that NetGuide, the competition’s sponsors and your school are allowed to exhibit your site, so your copyright has to allow for this. Q. Can we use java script? A. Yes, you can.
